This was a big week! We celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week with lots of nice gifts and recognition from the community, parents, and various local organizations. Thank you to everyone who made our teachers feel loved and valued this week. It’s a truly noble profession, and some of the best in the business work right here. Another noble profession was also celebrated this week: nursing. We love and appreciate our school nurses and also all the other nurses out there. Thank you for using compassion and keeping us healthy.
Mrs. Russell, MHHS principal, and I both appreciate the discourse around the graduation seating plan. We heard lots of good feedback and had some really great conversations with stakeholders. We’ve come up with a plan that allows students to sit together at graduation while also reserving some special seating for close family and loved ones. I think this was a fantastic compromise. Here’s more about that plan.
This week was our CTE Completer ceremony, and I am always amazed at the hard work those students put in. This year 133 of our seniors completed 208 programs of study areas, which makes more than 42% of our graduating class a completer in at least one area. These students are college and workforce ready thanks to these programs and their incredible instructors. The future is definitely bright for the class of 2022.
This week we also announced a new opportunity for our rising seniors. Next year, 20 of our seniors will have the opportunity to qualify for a spot in a high school LPN program that would allow them to complete many of their nursing courses while still in high school. Those accepted would receive scholarship funding from the Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation as well as monthly stipends and a laptop to complete work.
